We want to thank Haley Rush for reaching out to us, Choice Adoptions, to investigate the status of infant adoptions in Oregon. While birth rates, abortion rates, and adoption rates are all down, the travesty is that the number of children, including infants, who are entering the foster care system continues its steady climb.
We are working hard at Choice to raise awareness in our culture that all moms –pregnant and parenting moms, as well as those who may have just delivered their baby — have the right to make an adoption plan with a private agency if they are in danger of having that child go into foster care. As long as parental rights have not been terminated, it’s a choice that will greatly reduce the pain a mother experiences when she just cannot parent. It’s a choice that cushions the devastating heartbreak of not knowing who your child is with once they have been taken into state custody. At Choice, we offer open adoptions, meaning that the birthparents can choose an adoptive family they love and stay in a loving relationship with their baby and the adoptive parents forever.
